How to Save Money at a Five Star Hotel & Resorts

February 24th, 2009

It takes some thought and creativity, but it’s possible to save money at a five star resort without crimping your travel lifestyle. Follow the frugal 8 tips below to save money during a luxury vacation:

Step1
Book the least expensive room. Like the real estate mantra of buying the least expensive house on the block, reserve the least expensive room at a five star resort. If you’re staying at a beach front resort with gorgeous pools and grounds, a fantastic gym & spa, and endless activity options, you probably won’t spend a lot of awake-time in your room. Use the money you save on a garden or partial ocean view room, rather than a deluxe ocean front room, to offset a spa treatment or pool side drinks.

Step2
Do your research for new promotions since you booked your trip. Check out travel sites to see whether your hotel has added any specials that you can take advantage of during your travel dates. Discounts may include room upgrades, promotional pricing, or a fourth-night free stay at a hotel. Every penny counts!

If accommodation is at a premium for some reason, you may have to accept something that is more expensive than you planned, or below the standard you wanted. By booking ahead, especially with online hotel bookings, you can ensure that your accommodation is waiting for you at a price you have had time to consider and can afford.

Finding Travel Insurance For Pre-Existing Medical Conditions

November 24th, 2008

What would happen if you had a month’s trip to America booked - departing in six months time - and were unexpectedly diagnosed with lung cancer? Suppose you had to cancel your holiday and go in for immediate surgery. If you had been smart and taken out travel insurance - effective from the date you booked the trip - you should be able to recover costs associated with the cancellation of the trip (after any excess payable). However, if you had waited until the day before departure to purchase travel insurance your cancellation costs would not be covered. Some people try to squeeze extra mileage out of their annual travel insurance policy by making the start date of the policy the date of the first departure. This is a risky thing to do because there will be no cover for cancellation costs if anything should go wrong prior to the departure date. Read more…
